THE VOYAGES OF COLONIA

The pleasure of travelling, of taking the necessary time to savour the spirit of a place. Like all great travellers, Colonia deeply explores other worlds and traditions. Each new departure is a discovery. A sensory journey in search of the most rare and original essences, of ingredients that tell the story of an atmosphere, a vision of beauty, a way of life. It is upon return from each stop on the voyage that the real adventure starts. To make that rare and precious ingredient one’s own in a spirit of renewal, to imagine brand new compositions where Colonia retains its distinct identity, but is enriched with unexpected facets. The result is a collection of sophisticated and evocative fragrances. Ingredient Collection. A travel diary of aromas, always open to new discoveries and fascinating combinations. Colonia traces its map along the routes of time and space. From its trip to the Middle East, Colonia captures the sensory opulence of Agarwood oil, giving life to the mysterious and sensual notes of Colonia Oud. A fragrance that combines the essence that is a symbol of the rich Arab civilisation of perfumes combined with the entirely Italian freshness of Colonia.

Returning to Italy, the pleasure of spending time in antique artisan workshops, where, surrounded by the scent of leather, objects and accessories that express the sense of the Tuscan roots and tradition are created. It is from this intense aroma that Colonia Leather was born. Again, the desire to travel to faraway places, along the Silk Road, where the personality of Colonia joins the refined sensuality of ambergris to create Colonia Ambra. From here, two new Italian stops along the journey, rich in stories to tell. Piedmont, its noble families, a symbolic tree and a precious and vital ingredient which has inspired Colonia Quercia. Then Milan and its most hidden corners. The secret cabinetmaking workshops, the smell of the most precious wood from which Colonia Ebano is inspired. The momentum toward distant horizons returns irresistibly. Through deserts and mountains, Colonia meets the intoxicating intensity of an ancient ingredient which creates Colonia Mirra.

Colonia Ebano

Encounter an ancient art, recognise it by its scent

Metropolitan rhythms, speed, lights and sounds. But wandering among the narrow streets of the old quarter, everything becomes more calm and collected. Travelling to Milan one happens to encounter secluded and quiet spaces. Laboratories where for centuries the art of cabinetmaking has been cultivated at its highest levels. You first notice it in the scent of beeswax with which the cabinetmaker caresses the wood until it gleams. In the subtle and penetrating aromas of ebony and other precious woods that are skilfully inlaid with each other. Sensory atmospheres that tell the stories of masterpieces of Italian art and craftsmanship. Travel notes enclosed in Colonia Ebano.

Italian cabinetmaking has its absolute geniuses.

Born in the Renaissance, it expresses its splendour in the Baroque Age and then in the 1700s. The protagonist is the legendary Giuseppe Maggiolini, and it is not by chance that he is defined as the prince of wood craftsmen, called to work in the major courts of Europe and creator of the furnishings of Villa Reale in Monza. Artisan and artist. Virtuoso craftsman and at the same time ante litteram creative and designer. Every piece he created is one of a kind. Neoclassical lines, essential and with a pictorial sensitivity in composing elaborate and perfect decorations. The Milanese cabinetmakers take up the grand tradition of Maggiolini, as well as his mastery in giving shape to rich and sinuous wooden inlays.

Ebony, exotic, perfumed wood of great value.

Hard, compact, with a fine grain, it lends itself to a perfect polishing that exalts the dark tones up to the deepest black. It is used to make precious objects such as chessboards and piano keys. It becomes ductile material in the hands of the cabinetmakers who, in their inlays, place it alongside other precious woods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut. A visual, tactile and olfactory richness that resurfaces in Colonia Ebano. The solar spirit of Colonia encounters the natural warmth of the most precious wood essences and the enveloping notes of honey, to evoke the beeswax that completes and refines the surfaces of the inlays.

Colonia Ebano

A faceted, sumptuous fragrance, but at the same time fresh and luminous. The sparking citrusy opening notes of bergamot and petitgrain clearly bring to mind the personality of Colonia. In the heart, the sophisticated intensity of elemi essential oil binds to the spicy accents of pink pepper, perfect prelude to the pleasures of the ebony accord, with its warm and creamy notes. The balance of the fragrance finds its impeccable conclusion in the base notes. With the rewarding and soft notes of honey, in an engaging contrast with the aromatic accents of vetiver and the balsamic notes of patchouli.

Colonia Mirra

Along the Via Sacra of perfumes

Muscat. At the hour of sunset, the streets and windows are dotted with small coloured lanterns where incense and myrrh unleash their vibrant aromas. From the capital of ancient Oman, since the third century before Christ, long caravans carried, through steep mountains, lowlands and endless deserts, their cargo of spices, fragrances and rare essences. A slow and tireless crossing, until the kingdom of Saba, to Jordan and the mythical road of the Wise Men. To then reach the Mediterranean until arriving in Rome, where the highly prized Oriental resins were in great demand, burnt during religious ceremonies. A long journey on the Via Sacra of perfumes. An adventure on the trails of the Orient from which Colonia Mirra was born.

Among the most sought-after essences of antiquity, often exchanged for its weight in gold, myrrh has a history thousands of years old.

The Egyptians used it for Kyphi, the perfume of the pharaohs. The Greeks mixed it with wine to flavour it. Eastern women still use it today in cosmetics with revitalising powers. Even the Bible mentions it several times and the Wise Men brought it to the Baby Jesus as a gift. Used in Chinese medicine, it brings together healing qualities and sanctity.

Even today myrrh is collected by hand from commiphora, a delicate spiny shrub which grows in the warmest climes.

Dense, perfumed drops are gathered from the trunk and from these the essential oil and the resin are obtained. The laborious production of myrrh has made it a specially sought-after and precious ingredient from the very dawn of perfumery. Its balsamic and embracing aroma gives an appealing complexity to the luminous transparency of Colonia which emerges little by little, like the slow advance of a caravan in the desert.

The Italian style of Colonia

The Italian style of Colonia is all in the transparent and citrusy opening note of mandarin orange, lemon and petitgrain, that acts as a counterpoint to a single heart where the delicate aromas of orange blossom and the spicy accents of nutmeg merge with the warm scent of the oil of myrrh. It is in the heart of this magnetic olfactory composition that the myrrh unveils its first facets. In a magnificent evolution, the base combines the enveloping notes of patchouli to the balsamic and amber notes of myrrh resin, revealing the sophisticated soul of this new Eau de Cologne Concentrée.

Colonia Quercia

A JOURNEY TO PIEDMONT. AMONG ARISTOCRATIC AND HISTORIC FAMILIES. IN THE SHADE OF A SACRED TREE, SYMBOL OF COURAGE, DIGNITY AND SHELTER

Travelling among the aristocratic families of Piedmont you encounter one of their traditional symbols. A tree considered sacred since ancient times, whose renowned longevity testifies to and accompanies the history of mankind, as well as the traditions and values handed down unaltered from generation to generation. The oak, already venerated in times past as the king of trees or the tree of life due to its exceptional hardiness and longevity, has always been a symbol of generosity and courage. With its powerful trunk and ample crown it conveys protection and strength. It is from the soft moss which grows on its bark that one of the most precious and rare ingredients of quality perfumery is extracted - oakmoss absolute - which becomes the heart of a new and exclusive olfactory composition. Colonia Quercia.

IN THE WOODS OF PIEDMONT. THE APPEAL OF AN ANCIENT TREE. WALKING AMONG CENTURIES-OLD OAKS, TAKING IN THEIR VIGOUR

A soft carpet of barely damp earth and light that shines through the branches. All around, the stillness of the morning and the cool, soothing shadow of the great majestic oaks. Sturdy, strong trees which, with their mighty branches, almost create an encircling tunnel. Natural architecture which has existed since time immemorial, wonderful to stroll through quietly, breathing deeply and taking in the strong scent of the undergrowth in the air.

COLONIA QUERCIA. THE MAJESTIC STRENGTH OF A NOBLE INGREDIENT. THE ETERNAL SPIRIT OF A NOBLE LAND IN AN IRRESISTIBLE COMPOSITION

An irresistible and powerful fragrance. A generous, sensory composition which encapsulates the eternal spirit of a noble tree. Within Colonia Quercia lies the strength of a majestic tree. In the olfactory development of this fragrance, the unmistakable citrus clarity of Colonia meets the scents of moss, the aromas of green and of light which accompany a long walk in the woods. Deep notes released from an ingredient prized by leading perfumers: oakmoss absolute. An elegant and original alchemy is thus created. A fragrance which resonates with those who know how to recognise the values of a tradition which remains beguiling and dynamic from generation to generation.

A VIBRANT, FULL-BODIED FRAGRANCE. NOTES OF LIGHT AND ELEGANCE. THE CHEERFULNESS OF CITRUS MEETS OAKMOSS ABSOLUTE

The clear and crisp opening reflects of the characteristic and unforgettable personality of Colonia. A citrus beginning where bergamot, lemon, petitgrain and pink pepper meet. The journey has barely begun and immediately reaches the heart of the fragrance, zesty and vibrant with geranium, cardamom and cedarwood. This is the prelude to the grand finale, utterly radiant, sophisticated and strong. The leading role is that of oakmoss absolute which recalls the clarity of the beginning, but with its own specific olfactory splendour which makes the composition of this Eau de Cologne Concentrée even more original. A rare ingredient, extraordinarily rich in nuances, that gives Colonia Quercia a unique persistence, clothing it in intense elegance. In the resonant base, its mossy and woody aromas are elevated by the gorgeous accents of tonka bean and the precious warmth of patchouli.

A PRECIOUS, DYNAMIC AND NOBLE INGREDIENT. FROM QUALITY PERFUMERY,OAKMOSS ABSOLUTE

Oakmoss grows on the trunk of oak trees and shares their strength, which it releases through its powerful olfactory notes. It is one of the most noble, refined and ancient ingredients used in quality perfumery, an indispensable note giving persistence and character to the most refined compositions. To obtain small, precious quantities of it, the moss must be gathered in winter and spring, then allowed to dry out and rest so that it can let all its olfactory aspects mature. Only then, from the moss concrete, is the absolute extracted, especially rich in sensory nuances. Green and woody notes and a deep forest scent, in a harmony that is resolute yet at the same time soft, rich in the aromas of damp earth and leaves. As unforgettable as a morning walk among magnificent oak trees.

THE PURITY OF STYLE. MUST-HAVE, SOUGHT-AFTER DESIGN. A REFINEMENT WHICH CAN BE RECOGNISED IN ITS DETAIL AND CRAFTSMANSHIP

Characterising Colonia Quercia is the iconic Art Deco bottle, customised in the colours that run through the whole collection. Deep brown for the bottle made from the clearest glass and for the lid, bronze highlights for the label. All the details, materials and workmanship reflect the Italian craftsmanship that has always distinguished every Acqua di Parma creation. Colonia Quercia is available in two sizes: 100ml and 180ml. Each bottle is packaged inside a box wholly covered by hand in fine paper in sophisticated tobacco tones. The bronze satin which enriches the inside gives the meticulous, must-have design a precious touch.

Colonia Ambra

TRAVELLING ALONG THE SILK ROAD

From Venice through Damascus, Bukhara, and Samarkand – also known as the Rome of the East – to boundless China, and then far-away Madagascar, mysterious India, and the fabulous Moluccan Islands. A region busy with trade caravans, rich in language and its mix of cultures. A journey through time with Marco Polo, along the intriguing routes of the Silk Road. Alongside one of the greatest Western travellers to explore lands and cities rich of spices and textiles, languages and music styles, sciences and religions. At the court of the Chinese emperor Kublai Khan, surrounded by millennia-old inventions and secrets, Marco Polo came to know unfamiliar essences, such as rare ambergris, which Chinese practitioners used in their pharmacopoeia. A substance that the Venetian explorer called ambrum and took back on his long journey home, alongside an enormous wealth of memories and stories. Venetian master perfume-makers, charmed by the warm and intense scent of this natural essence, added it in tiny amounts – due to its high value – to precious, exquisite fragrances intended for Venetian aristocrats.

COLONIA AMBRA. A CONTEMPORARY PROJECTION OF AN ELEGANT AND COSMOPOLITAN GENTLEMAN

Perfume-making is a subtle art packed with secrets. One of these is ambergris. An extremely rare ingredient and an essential component of the most exquisite fragrances, ambergris is characterized by peculiar marine notes, originating from the action of the ocean and of the wind, together lulling it for many years before it is deposited on remote beaches. Colonia Ambra is an unprecedented interpretation of this rare essence, skilfully combined with the typical fresh citrus notes of Colonia. A fragrance that tells a fascinating story with a modern sensory approach, a unique trademark of style for a man who is passionate about travel and the exploration of culture, tied to the past yet projected into modern times. A pleasant new entry that speaks to his sophisticated taste. His elegance is far from stereotypical, his favourite fragrance is Colonia Ambra.

COLONIA AMBRA. A PRECIOUS COMPOSITE FRAGRANCE WITH A CONTEMPORARY NOTE

An original and elegant fragrance born from the unprecedented combination of two strongly assertive olfactory themes – the citrus notes of Colonia blended with the deep and seductive notes of ambergris. The emotion of a journey that is about to start, with a top that promptly unveils the unique freshness of Colonia deriving from a well-balanced combination of orange oil, bergamot, and petit grain. There follows a warm heart of notes that come from remote lands. The woody accents of nagarmotha and cedar wood are blended with the delicate, yet vibrant notes of rosewood. The heart closes on the earthy and musky notes of patchouli that perfectly announce the main ingredient of the fragrance – ambergris. Here Colonia Ambra develops into a surprising base, a true first, with the introduction of ambergris tincture, a rare and precious ingredient whose intense sensual notes, enhanced by sandalwood and warmed up by soft vanilla accents, unveil the unique personality of this precious Eau de Cologne concentrée.

THE SECRETS OF AMBERGRIS

Ambergris is a natural ingredient generated by marine mammals, which floats for years and years across the oceans until it ends up on sea shores in solid crystals. This utterly spontaneous generation process makes it extremely rare and invaluable. The most precious varieties float on sea water for over twenty years. Ambergris is found on the shores of the Baltic Sea, Normandy, and England, as well as of Madagascar and Japan. Ambergris was first reported in 1000 A.D. in Africa. At that time it was exported as a luxury item with gold and other precious items. Well known for its therapeutic properties and power as an aphrodisiac, it was used in ancient times as an incense or a tincture for medical preparations. In the Middle Ages it was stored in gold apple-shaped jars. In the West and the East it is an extremely rare and precious traditional high-perfumery ingredient. Master perfume-makers are fond of its peculiar salty, musky, wet earth notes, by which it is sought out as a seductive and intense component of the most exquisite fragrances.

COLOUR AND DESIGN. THE TASTE OF A MINIMALIST

The iconic Art Deco bottle characterizes the collection that originates from the journeys undertaken by Colonia. Sober and exquisite colour codes valorize the masculine glamour of the fragrances. The tobacco notes of the extra-pure glass bottle and cap are brightened by the bronze hues on the label. Each and every detail points to its being part of the Colonia Universe. Colonia Ambra is offered in 2 sizes – the classic 100ml bottle and the luxurious 180ml version. Tobacco hues and a minimal design also characterize the case, hand-coated with precious paper, exuding the finest Italian craftsmanship. A rich and subdued note comes from the bronze satin inner lining.

Colonia Leather

COLONIA’S TRAVELS. THE NEW GEOGRAPHIES OF PERFUMERY

A true traveller explores other worlds and thoroughly appreciates their essence, absorbing new ideas and expanding their horizons. This is how Colonia begins its journey across different olfactory regions and cultures. Its journey is made up of a fascinating route, along which the iconic Acqua di Parma fragrance meets and selects rare, unusual, evocative ingredients to reinterpret itself and produce unprecedented fragrance compounds, while keeping its utterly recognizable character. All this gives origin to a collection that is like a travel logbook. The first two chapters are about two different, equally intriguing destinations – the East, with Colonia Oud that conveys the sensory wealth of those regions, combined with the all-Italian freshness of Colonia in an unusual blend and, back in Italy, a stop in beautiful Tuscany, at the historical tanneries pervaded with that intoxicating smell of leather that recalls utterly masculine elegance. This is where Colonia Leather is born.

A JOURNEY ACROSS THE TUSCAN TANNERIES

Hides are scattered everywhere, either rolled up or spread on working tops. Touch soft and thick, in countless colour shades – cocoa, dark brown, earth, tobacco… Hands working with accuracy and confidence. And, in the air, that special, warm, subtle aroma of leather, as well as of wood, spices, and resins. A scent of leather that you can only breathe here, at the historical Tuscan tanneries, with intense and unique notes that promptly recall the most significant moments of Colonia’s journey to the heart of Italian craftsmanship to capture the energetic, yet relaxed atmosphere of old workshops, pervaded with the consciousness and pleasure of giving life to something beautiful and unique every day. Objects - bags, suitcases, and accessories of the finest Italian craftsmanship - that will travel around the world from here, on other journeys. These accessories appeal to a cosmopolitan man that loves the truest Italian character, a man whose style is reflected in the small details, as well as in his favourite fragrance – Colonia Leather.

COLONIA LEATHER. THE SCENT OF LEATHER, THE SOUL OF COLONIA

Italian craftsmanship lies at the heart of the Colonia fragrance, the origin of the Acqua di Parma universe and, once back from the world of Tuscan tanneries, it perfectly represents their sensory spirit. A blend of the finest oils and aromatic essences forms the heart and base of this new composition: Colonia Leather – the scent of leather that is reminiscent of relaxing breaks at the club with its precious leather covered warm and inviting furniture; or of business meetings the world over, underlined by objects whose rich leather and needle-work convey the sense of roots and of tradition. While speaking about this and much more, Colonia Leather retains and releases the citrus top that characterizes the personality of Colonia, a sophisticated freshness that blends with warm aromatic leather in a composition that is typical of Acqua di Parma.

DEEP AND UNFORGETTABLE

Colonia Leather has a surprising and elegant citrus top, the traditional note of Colonia enriched with additional traits. Top notes include lemon of Sicily and Brazilian orange oil, combined with an original raspberry note followed by a floral heart of rose, honeysuckle, Paraguayan petit grain oil and red thyme oil. This is where Colonia Leather fully unveils its personality and brings memories of a unique journey to the mind. A powerful leather accord emerges from the base, originally constructed around precious ingredients. A classic like birch oil, which used to be employed as a tanning agent, comes in its deepest and most intense variety, perfectly matching the top citrus notes. Precious resins, like cistus and olibanol offer a surprising note, for an unprecedented aromatic tone. This combination of scents reveals its almost tactile abundance when joined with the rich and spicy base, with Moroccan cedar wood and Paraguayan guaiac oil – a persistent and unforgettable fragrance.

ACQUA DI PARMA AND THE LEATHER ACCORD

Acqua di Parma offers a formula with a strong aromatic character, a powerful and precious leather accord, where every single note is skilfully and carefully selected to evoke the typical scent of leather processed by the best Italian leather goods producers. A unique, persistent accord that perfectly blends with the light citrus scent that characterizes Colonia.

PURE DESIGN, SOBER COLOUR

For the new collection inspired by Colonia’s travels, Acqua di Parma goes for the iconic Art Deco bottle. Its colours enhance the sharp masculine character of the new fragrances, first and foremost Colonia Leather. The extra-pure glass bottle and its cap come in deep brown hues that are reminiscent of the warmest leather shades. The label has precious bronze accents. Unambiguously part of the Colonia universe, its timeless style looks out to new worlds. Two sizes are available: the classic 100ml and the high impact 180ml. Tobacco shades and an essential design also characterize the case, hand coated with precious paper and enriched with a sophisticated bronze satin lining.

ACQUA DI PARMA TRAVELLING TO THE MIDDLE EAST

Horse riding, sweeping wind, boundless spaces. The history of a nomadic population that created futurist havens in the heart of the Middle East. It is where East and West collide, some say it's a new Manhattan in the desert. Atmospheres suspended in the sunset glow; fountains and water works. The colours of the earth and of the sand. Natural beauty contrasts against the sparkling, ultra-modern glass, marble and steel architecture. Thus creating a dream amidst the dunes. This is the final destination of the long, beautiful journey of Acqua di Parma, the iconic brand of a timeless luxury, which finds its origins within the truest Italian tradition. This is where it captures subtle suggestions, identifies tastes and attitudes, which merge into Colonia OUD. An Eau de Cologne with well- defined notes and construction, making it intensely masculine. It creates the portrait of a man who has found his roots and his way of being in these locations. A man that preserves his identity - yet still embraces the ways of the world. Deeply cosmopolitan, forever engaged in an endless journey. From Milan to Moscow, from Paris to London. He studies, develops relationships, and moves confidently and consciously, in the global worlds of technology, business and finance. Open-minded and evolved in his way of thinking, in his tastes and choices, he recognises the true European and Italian luxury expressed with undisputed elegance. He loves the essential traits and the beauty of a sartorial suit. Wears hand-crafted leather shoes and collects classic Swiss watches. He identifies with a fragrance that combines two cultures and merges two identities together into an original and unique harmony. Italian art and beauty are also the fruit of great travellers that carried, developed, and preserved their roots all over the world. Colonia OUD stems from an unexpected affinity between worlds that seem far apart. A unique fragrance combining the all-Italian freshness of iconic Colonia Acqua di Parma with the oriental traits of the most precious Agarwood, an essential oil which is a distinctive element of the fascinating Middle East sensory tradition.

A UNIQUE, RICH, ASSERTIVE MATCH

Acqua di Parma explores the rich olfactory tradition of the Arab civilisation. A world traditionally devoted to the great culture of aromas and essences, where in ancient times perfumes had a sacred and therapeutic value. In this world, balms, incense, and perfumed oils are obtained from precious woods, musks, spices and resins that were formed a long long time ago, such as amber. Warm and persistent notes of pervading opulence that produce a sense of mystery, arouse a perception of intensity and power. One of the most charismatic ingredients is Agarwood, also known as OUD, which is the most precious of all. An essence obtained by means of a long, painstaking, complicated manual process from the resins of Aquilaria, a large tree which originates from India. It is the utmost symbol of assertive and sensual masculine elegance in the Middle East. Acqua di Parma places pure Agarwood at the heart of an original restyling of Colonia. It opens with typical fresh citrus notes, which melt unpredictably with the deep and rich scent of Agarwood. A perfect match for a man tied to his roots, one that appreciates, pursues and experiences the best of Western creations; and also in his favourite Eau de Cologne, Colonia OUD.

A JOURNEY THROUGH CITRUS FRUITS, SPICES AND PRECIOUS WOODS

Colonia OUD: an elegant fragrance and a masterly composition. An invitation to embark on a journey among exciting sensory notes. Departing from Italy, among the citrus orchards of the south, where Acqua di Parma selects the purest essences of orange and Calabrian bergamot. A clear and transparent opening with a unique reference to the long-standing tradition of Acqua di Parma Colonia, the symbol of the purest Italian elegance all over the world. But the journey continues across the seas on the spice route. A stop in the south of Russia to enjoy the precious qualities of coriander, mixed with the warm accents of Amyris wood. This is the prelude for the next stage, where new, sensual landscapes opens up on the horizon, while the heart of the fragrance is fully unveiled. The Gulf countries and the vibrant, magnetic notes of Agarwood essential oil, create an intense aroma that is traditionally a part of the olfactory language of these regions and returns in incense, balms and particularly in men’s fragrances. They are a sign of charismatic, ancestral virility. From Marrakech to the Emirates, from Lebanon to Saudi Arabia, the route weaving amongst the lands that Propertius described as the land of a thousand perfumes, continues to surprise and delight. The full and persistent character of sandalwood, an ancient essence, the leather scents of cedarwood and patchouli with its wood and forest notes. A blend with the clear and seducing traits of musk at the base, finishes with the preciousness of Agarwood, making this fragrance as unique as its journey across two different worlds.

EXPRESSION OF STYLE AND ELEGANCE

The Art Deco lines of the iconic bottle of Colonia OUD clearly characterise this new fragrance as part of the world of Acqua di Parma Colonia. Bottled in pure glass in the hues of tobacco, to protect the rare essences that make up the fragrance from light and to enhance its masculine character. It is finished off with a bronze label that lights up the bottle. Colonia OUD is available in a 100ml bottle. The finish on the packaging reflects the tobacco colour of the glass and is hand-coated with precious paper and lined with an elegant bronze silk.
